Why is Lanolin good for my beard?
We guess you don’t want a “because it just is” type of answer so are you ready for the science? Jolly good. Let us begin with the body's natural defences.
Our skin produces an oily and waxy substance called sebum from glands in our skin known as sebaceous glands. This creates a natural breathable barrier that retains water and prevents the skin and hair from drying out.
The wonder that is Lanolin is produced from the sebaceous glands of sheep which serves to protect its wool from the harsh weather and keep it in fine fettle. The properties and function of Lanolin are almost identical to that of sebum, so it is the perfect choice for our product.
The medical grade lanolin that we use is unrivalled in its purity having gone through a patented cleansing method that does not involve bleaching or chemicals. It is hypoallergenic and approved by the British Skin Foundation so those that may have been allergic to other grades of lanolin are unlikely to be allergic to ours.
So why is lanolin good for your beard? The simple answer: your face will stay hydrated longer because of it, preventing it drying out, improving softness and condition, it's how nature works.
Meadowfoam Oil
As if the Lanolin alone wasn't enough to have you convinced, we also utilise the amazing meadowfoam oil which boasts a range of properties that supports and protects your skin and hair.
The oil works in harmony with the Lanolin and is quickly absorbed into the skin and hair where it has very positive effects. Meadowfoam oil comes from the seeds of the meadowfoam plant and has amazing value in the cosmetic industry where it is used in many high-end anti-aging and sun protection creams.
The reasons for its use in these types of product and indeed our very own are wonderful:- it can repair dry and cracked skin and hair, add shine and softness, and also boasts a natural UVF protection.
Meadowfoam oil is also packed full of vitamins A, B, C, D, & E, along with long-chain fatty acids - it sounds amazing and it is amazing!
Vitamin E
We use a small amount of vitamin E in our blend to help with skin conditioning and elasticity. The importance of vitamin E and its use in a very low concentration is well observed here at FineFettle so we get all the benefits of this wonderful oil without fear of it affecting our well balanced product. The antioxidant properties adds a protective element to our Beard conditioner that stabilises the blended ingredients further.
